What Sua Eccellenza si fermò a mangiare Is About
A small-time crook passes himself off as Mussolini's personal physician. Under the fascist regime the title opens every door. He gets into the house of a wealthy family, wins everyone's confidence, is seated at the table, and when the business is done the household's gold cutlery leaves with him. The joke comes as much from how the people around him behave the moment the regime is invoked as from the crook's own nerve. Mario Mattoli directs the Italian comedy; ninety-seven minutes, with Ugo Tognazzi, Virna Lisi and Totò in the cast. Totò was the most widely seen performer in postwar Italian comedy, and Mattoli worked with him again and again.
