What Il medico dei pazzi Is About
Felice Sciosciammocca, the mayor of Roccasecca, sends his nephew Ciccillo to Naples to become a good doctor, and then turns up unannounced to see how he is getting on. The nephew abandoned his studies long ago and is buried in debt, so rather than confess he passes off an asylum as his own clinic. The uncle proceeds to mistake the patients for colleagues and the colleagues for patients. Mario Mattoli hands Felice Sciosciammocca, a stock figure of the Neapolitan stage, to Totò. It is one misunderstanding stacked on the next, and in eighty-three minutes the film never slows down enough to let anyone catch up.
