What Superior Ultra 8 Brothers Is About
The film opens on 17 July 1966 in a house where three boys watch the first Ultraman broadcast together; those boys grow up to be Tiga, Dyna and Gaia. They join Ultraman Mebius alongside Ultraman, Ultra Seven, Ultraman Jack and Ultraman Ace to fight far stronger versions of familiar monsters. Directed by Takeshi Yagi, it opened in September 2008 and passed eight hundred million yen, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise to that point, a record it held for fourteen years. Nostalgia here is not decoration but the structure the film is built on.
