What Sway Is About

Takeru, a fashion photographer in Tokyo, arrives late for his mother’s memorial and runs straight into his father; his older brother Minoru steps in and smooths it over as he always does. The brother has taken over the family garage, and Takeru’s former girlfriend works there. The three of them go up to the gorge where they played as children, and on an old rope bridge the tension breaks. Miwa Nishikawa’s film is less a murder case than the story of everything two brothers have never said to each other. It played in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes, with Joe Odagiri and Teruyuki Kagawa.
