What Sweet Bunch Is About

Nikos Nikolaidis’s 1983 film runs like a diary kept by a group of young people who have reached the point of no return and are looking for something worth believing in and dying for, without finding it. Their way of living attracts the attention of the State, a quiet surveillance begins, and the vigilante group watching their house is led by a blond man who is never named. The film records a decay made of cheating, stealing, sleeping and dancing, and its title points at Sam Peckinpah, which is also where the ending goes. The Greek film critics’ association has ranked it among the country’s ten greatest films, and its influence runs on through Tsangari and Lanthimos.
