Tale of the Sleeping Giants

The documentary was filmed in Lapland. The whole of the filming was done there. The camera travels the mountains, the lakes and the rivers. The region with its untouched nature is the ground of the account. The work is also a journey into mythology. Old Scandinavian tales are inside the account. So are the tales of the Sámi people. The film presents these in the form of a nature documentary. Myth and landscape run into each other in it. The sleeping giants of the title come from an idea of the writer Antti Tuuri. Tuuri thinks of the fells as sleeping giants. The filming spread across three years. Rare animals of the Arctic go on record as well. Wolverines, weasels and bears are among them. The work is the third part of a series of nature films. Peter Franzén narrates it. Marko Röhr’s Finnish documentary of 2020 runs seventy seven minutes.
