What Ten Is About
The good natured scholar Christian-Theodore arrives in a small country where miracles really happen and falls in love with the princess there. Her marriage is a matter of state, since her husband will become the new king; unlike the other suitors, Christian-Theodore has no self interest in mind. He releases his shadow so as to have a faithful helper, but the shadow is selfishness, greed and meanness itself: it betrays the scholar in short order, marries the princess and takes the throne. Nadezhda Kosheverova’s eighty six minute Soviet film was adapted from a play by Yevgeny Schwartz. Oleg Dal, Anastasiya Vertinskaya and Marina Neyolova appear; it was completed in 1971 and released on 18 September 1972.
