What The 7th Day Is About
Isabel is a young girl growing up in the middle of a feud between two families. It began years ago over a love affair, turned into a dispute about land, and somewhere along the way the Fuentes house burned down. Isabel's uncle is killed by Jerónimo Fuentes, and the same man later tries to knife her father. When Jerónimo dies in prison, Isabel starts looking for the truth outside her own family. What the village simpleton tells her is heavy going: her father may have set that fire himself. Carlos Saura's film comes from something that happened. In the summer of 1990, in the Extremaduran village of Puerto Hurraco, a feud between two families ended in a massacre in which two elderly brothers killed nine people with hunting rifles. The screenplay is by Ray Loriga.
