What The Battle of the Eagles Is About
In the spring of 1942 the skies over Yugoslavia are entirely in the hands of German aircraft. The Partisans decide to build an air unit of their own from a few planes taken from the enemy; former pilots are gathered, they begin with two small biplanes, and in time, as others join, a squadron takes shape. The film tells the founding of that unit and its first engagements, showing beside the scenes in the air the business on the ground of maintenance, fuel and concealment. Hajrudin Krvavac’s hundred and thirty minute Yugoslav film draws freely on real events; Bekim Fehmiu and Velimir Živojinović appear. It was completed in 1979.
