What The Belstone Fox Is About

A fox named Tag knows how to get clear of both the dogs and the hunters. When he was young he made friends with a hound called Merlin. The bond between them holds; neither will attack the other. But the hunters do not give up the chase, and it ends badly. Even so, Tag holds out for staying alive and free in the countryside. The film shows fox hunting not as a tradition but as a one sided pursuit. The account watches the animals without making people of them. The work is adapted from a novel. The hundred and three minutes are spread over several years. Eric Porter and Jeremy Kemp appear in James Hill’s British film, completed in 1973.
