What The Bit Player Is About
The documentary takes up Claude Shannon. Shannon was a mathematician and engineer. He is counted as the founder of information theory. In 1948 he published a paper. In it he set out the idea of the bit. The ground of the information age was laid that way. But his name is not widely known. The film takes up that gap. The account is built with archive footage. Recordings from Bell Labs are used. Shannon’s own interviews are in it too. His early years are shown through reconstruction. Shannon was a curious man and built machines. Among the things he built was a juggling robot. Mark Levinson directed the eighty five minute documentary. The American production was finished in 2019.
