What The Boarder Is About
A woman who earns her living by selling her body goes on holiday to a seaside resort with her young daughter, who is being schooled by nuns. By the sea everything is cheerful and courteous; the guests at the hotel take her for a poor widow, since she always wears black, and treat her as a lady. When one of her former clients arrives in the town, the days of that ease are numbered. The film puts on trial not the woman but a crowd able to offer respect only on false information; the real question is not who anyone is but what is done once it is known. Martine Carol and Raf Vallone appear in Alberto Lattuada’s ninety seven minute Italian film, completed in 1954.
