What The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story Is About
Lou Pearlman assembled the Backstreet Boys and then NSYNC, manufactured the best-selling pop groups of the nineties, and was running one of the largest Ponzi schemes in American history at the same time, with a hole in it of some three hundred million dollars. Aaron Kunkel’s documentary starts with the small frauds of his childhood and follows the line straight through to how he used musicians for his own gain. Lance Bass, formerly of NSYNC, produced it, so one of the narrators is also someone who went through the machine. People from O-Town, Innosense and C-Note speak as well. It premiered at SXSW and was released in April 2019.
