What The Cat Is About

Amedeo and Ofelia are a middle-aged brother and sister who jointly own an old but still valuable apartment building in Rome. They want to sell it, and first they have to get the tenants out. The tenants have no intention of going. Then the cat that everybody in the building loves is found dead. The two take the chance to work their way into everyone's life: Amedeo starts pursuing young Wanda, Ofelia sets about seducing Don Pezzolla, the priest. Meanwhile the police are looking for whoever killed the cat. Luigi Comencini directs, with Ugo Tognazzi as Amedeo and Mariangela Melato as Ofelia. It belongs to the bitter vein of Italian comedy; what is being laughed at is greed.
