What Everybody Go Home! Is About
September 1943: Italy signs an armistice with the Allies, the army dissolves overnight, and soldiers start walking home. Lieutenant Innocenzi is trying to reach Rome. But the Germans are the enemy now, and men caught on the roads are being rounded up. Alberto Sordi leads, and the film starts as comedy and descends step by step into darkness, ending in the days when Naples rose. Luigi Comencini directed. One of the hardest looks that Italian comedy took at the war. It puts death between the funny scenes and awards nobody the status of hero.
