What The Champions Is About
The documentary is about dogs rescued from a dogfighting operation. They were kept in the ring of a well known sportsman. The man was a quarterback in American football. When the case came out he was prosecuted. The dogs were in a bad state when they were seized. Because they had been made to fight they were counted dangerous. Most experts wanted them put down. But some people argued against that. They took the animals in one by one and began caring for them. The process was long and hard. Some of the dogs would not go near a person for years. In time the change began. A few of them went on to work as therapy dogs. The film tells that change through the people who took them in. The families who took the dogs in speak in the ninety three minute documentary, an American production Darcy Dennett finished in 2015.
