What The Company of Wolves Is About
In the dream of a sleeping girl, her grandmother tells her stories about wolves in the forest. Another story comes out of each story. The film builds no straight horror narrative; it is made of nested fables, and the wolf here stands for adolescence and male desire. The transformations were done with makeup and puppetry and still land. Neil Jordan directed, adapting Angela Carter's story with her. Angela Lansbury plays the grandmother. A real warning: the film works in a zone where sexuality meets adolescence, and the transformations are graphically bloody. It is not a conventional fairytale adaptation.
