The Corridor

Šarūnas Bartas's film is set in Vilnius in the years just after independence. There is no plot in the usual sense and no dialogue. The camera moves among a few people through the corridors, rooms and windows of an apartment building, and faces, hands, waiting and brief contact follow one another. Bartas builds the structure deliberately: the corridor is a passage between yesterday and tomorrow, and what lies behind each opening door is left uncertain. The film asks the viewer not to follow a story but to stay inside a condition. The use of sound and silence takes the place of narration. It is generally counted among the most demanding and most singular works in Lithuanian cinema, and Yekaterina Golubeva is in the cast.
