The House

A house and the people moving through it. Who they are, how they are connected, what time they are in, is not made clear. They pass between rooms, brush against each other, never quite meet. At the centre of the house is a young man who does not want to wake up; everything we see seems to come out of his sleep. Šarūnas Bartas's Lithuanian production uses almost no dialogue and builds no plot. Bartas always did this in his own cinema: the face instead of speech, duration instead of story. The cast includes names from European cinema such as Leos Carax and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi. It is a demanding watch; a film that asks for patience and repays it with images.
