What Few of Us Is About

A woman is set down by helicopter in the north of Siberia, among a small community in the Sayan mountains. Why she has come is never said. She spends her days with the handful of people living there: they hunt, they drink, they say nothing. There is almost no speech in the film. As time passes the tension inside the community grows. Šarūnas Bartas's Lithuanian film deliberately gives up telling a story. Its subject is faces, weather, silence and looks. Yekaterina Golubeva plays the woman. The telling offers the viewer no explanation at all, which makes it a hard film; but the images are very strong. Bartas is counted among the most extreme directors in Europe.
