The Creeping Garden

The documentary is about the world of the plasmodial slime mould, an organism that looks lifeless and yet moves. It looks at the subject through the eyes of scientists working at the margins, of mycologists and of artists. In recent years this curious organism has become the focus of a good deal of research: design inspired by biology, theories of emergence, unconventional computing and robot engineering. The film does not use the mould of a nature documentary; it brings the laboratory and the act of observation forward. The account does not make the organism cute and does not overstate the sense of wonder. Sound design and music are among its defining elements. The eighty one minute British documentary by Tim Grabham and Jasper Sharp was completed in 2014.
