The Diplomat

Richard Holbrooke was an American diplomat. His career ran for close to fifty years. It began in Vietnam, where he served as a foreign service officer. His best known work in between was the accord that ended the war in Bosnia. When he died he was special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. The documentary tells his life. The person who made it is his eldest son David. That makes the account both political and personal. The son is trying to understand his father. Among those who speak are witnesses from the period. Diplomats, journalists and statesmen. Holbrooke’s hard way of working is described as well. His relations with those close to him are another matter. The film tries to hold praise and criticism together. Witnesses from the period speak in the hundred and four minute documentary, an American production David Holbrooke finished in 2015.
