What The Fight Is About
The documentary follows five lawyers from inside the American Civil Liberties Union. Four lines of struggle are told: the separation of families at the border, the rolling back of the rights of trans people, the right to abortion and the right to vote. The camera is mostly in offices, on the telephone and in the preparation before hearings; the cases lost are shown as much as the ones won. The film does not turn legal work into a story of heroism, and it says how slow and wearing the work is. The ninety seven minute American documentary by Elyse Steinberg, Josh Kriegman and Eli Despres was completed in 2020.
