The Flamenco Guitar of Yerai Cortés

This 2024 documentary, the first film directed by the singer Antón Álvarez, known as C. Tangana, follows the flamenco guitarist Yerai Cortés. The camera is with Cortés as he writes and records his first solo album, but the film stops being a record of that process. There is a secret in his family that has gone unspoken for years, and music becomes the means of confronting it. Álvarez takes on gitano culture, silence inside a family and forgiveness at the same time, staging scenes so that they move between documentary reality and constructed moments. That choice carries the film outside its genre. It screened at San Sebastián and won the 2025 Goya awards for best documentary and best original song. Who it's for: viewers who love flamenco, music documentary and portraits entangled with family history. Who it's not for: anyone wanting a straight musician biography and concert footage.
