What The Garden Is About
There was a fourteen acre community garden in Los Angeles. The city had opened the land to the neighbourhood after the riots of 1992. Most of those who worked the ground were families of Latin American origin. In time it became the largest garden of its kind in the United States. Then the city sold the land back to its former owner. Under the new arrangement the farmers were not allowed to stay. The film follows that fight and the eviction at the end of it. The garden was finally cleared by bulldozers. Daryl Hannah and Antonio Villaraigosa appear in it. Scott Hamilton Kennedy’s American documentary, eighty minutes long, was completed in 2008.
