What The Garden of Delights Is About
Antonio Cano, a businessman of forty five, is badly hurt in a car crash and comes out of it paralysed and without his memory. The difficulty is that he alone knows the keys to the business, the combination of the safe and the number of the Swiss account. His family goes to increasingly extreme lengths to bring the memory back, restaging his childhood, his fears and Spain's recent past. Carlos Saura's 1970 film mocks the Francoist bourgeoisie and touches the Civil War, so the censors delayed and cut it. Its intricate structure works as a screen over the politics.
