The Generation of Evil

Gintas, a police commissioner close to retirement, takes on the investigation of a string of murders in a small Lithuanian town. The further the file goes, the more it touches the town's well-known names: business, politics, old friendships. Gintas's own past is not clean either. The question of who is being protected comes to matter more than the question of who was killed. Emilis Vėlyvis's film ties the murder investigation to the years in which post-Soviet Lithuania was built: who got rich in the nineties, and how, lies under today's crime. Vytautas Kaniušonis plays the commissioner, and Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė is among the known names in the cast. The tone is dark and the violence hard. The telling clears nobody; there is no one left clean in the town.
