What The Grand Highway Is About
Summer 1959, a small town in Brittany. Because his mother is about to give birth, nine-year-old Louis is taken from Paris and left with her friend Marcelle and Marcelle's husband Pelo. The couple lost a child and have been angry with each other ever since; Louis's arrival brings both new tension and an opening. Martine, the girl next door, is a year older and teaches him the parts of life nobody explains. Jean-Loup Hubert wrote it out of his own childhood. It was remade in America, but this is the original.
