The Great Hip Hop Hoax

The documentary tells the story of two musicians. They are Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd. The two of them are from Dundee in Scotland. They make rap music and go looking for a deal. But the record companies do not take them seriously. Their Scottish accents are made fun of. So they take a decision. They will present themselves as coming from Los Angeles. Their new name is Silibil n Brains. They change their accents as well. The trick works and they sign a deal. But keeping the lie going is hard. As the years pass the two of them fall out. Jeanie Finlay directed the ninety two minute documentary, in which Gavin Bain speaks for himself. The British production was finished in 2013.
