The Icelandic Dream

The man at the centre is trying to keep his footing in business. He is divorced and sees his child at weekends. Home life runs on constant tension. The ventures he enters fail one after another. The football team he supports keeps losing too. He is worn down on every front. As a last move he goes into importing. The plan is to bring energy cigarettes from Bulgaria. He believes sincerely that the idea will work. His friend tells him nothing will come of it. Half joking, the friend suggests he end his own life instead. The film shows this through black comedy. Hopelessness and stubbornness sit side by side in the same man. The ridiculous and the sad never separate. Jón Gnarr and Þorsteinn Bachmann appear in the ninety minute film, an Icelandic production Róbert I. Douglas finished in 2000.
