What The Imaginary Voyage Is About
A shy bank clerk drifts off one day and in his daydream follows a fairy down into an underground world. There people turn into animals, waxworks come to life and nothing stays as it looks. Lucie, the woman he likes at the office, comes after him, but a bad fairy does everything she can to keep the two apart. The film uses the tricks of silent cinema generously, its speeded up shots and its play with sets; the fairy tale and daily life meet in the same frame. The account stays faithful to the logic of the dream. Dolly Davis and Albert Prejean appear in Rene Clair’s eighty minute French film, completed in 1926.
