The film draws all its tension from enclosure; nobody can leave and everyone suspects everyone. The narrative keeps its black humour throughout. Rene Clair directed, adapting Agatha Christie's novel but using the altered ending from her own stage version; the novel ends far darker. Before watching: if you have read the novel the ending is different, deliberately. The book's original title also carried a racist term and was later changed; some old prints may still show it.
