The Invention of Dr. NakaMats

The documentary is about a Japanese inventor. His name is Yoshiro Nakamatsu. He is eighty at the time of filming. He says he holds thousands of patents. By his own count the number is over three thousand. He also claims the idea of the floppy disk as his own. IBM does not accept that. The company says its own engineers developed the floppy disk in 1969. Nakamatsu says he licensed some of his patents to IBM. The company confirms the licensing but says it had nothing to do with the floppy disk. The film does not set out to settle the argument. The camera follows the man through his daily routine. He has laid down rules for himself about producing ideas. He describes himself as a machine for inventing. The account does not mock him; it shows the appetite for work. Yoshiro Nakamatsu speaks for himself throughout the fifty seven minute film, a Danish production Kaspar Astrup Schröder finished in 2009.
