What The Longest Summer Is About
In the summer of 1997, months before Hong Kong is handed to China, the local unit of the British army is disbanded and Ga Yin and his friends are suddenly out of work. Knowing nothing but soldiering, they look for a way to live, and Ga Yin gets into the triad world through his brother Ga Suen before they decide to rob a bank; everything goes wrong, yet the money ends up in their hands anyway, with both the police and the gangs behind them. In Fruit Chan’s hundred and twenty eight minute film Tony Ho and Sam Lee appear, and the cast includes men who actually served in that unit. The production works real footage of the handover ceremony into the fiction and is the second film of the director’s 1997 trilogy.
