The Magicians

Little Ben, a great admirer of an illusionist, dreams of doing magic and persuades a father to put on a show of his own. The trouble is that the parent is decidedly clumsy and, in one of the tricks, accidentally makes Ben’s partner disappear. Since the police do not much believe in magic, matters grow more tangled still. The film is a comedy aimed at a family audience and keeps its fantastic element inside everyday life. The account brings a child’s dream and the panic of adults together in the same scene; the effort to bring the vanished person back is the engine of the story. Theo Maassen and Chantal Janzen appear in Joram Lursen’s ninety minute Dutch film, completed in 2010.
