What The Man from Colorado Is About
The Civil War ends and two friends come home from the army. Something happened to Owen Devereaux in the war and it comes home with him: appointed a judge, he starts running the authority he now holds together with his own darkness. The sentences get heavier and his behaviour less predictable by the week. Del Stewart, his friend and now the marshal, is caught between stopping him and helping him. Henry Levin's western has Glenn Ford as the judge and William Holden as the lawman, with Ellen Drew also in the cast. That the dangerous man is not outside the law but inside it puts the film in an unusual place for its genre.
