Jolson Sings Again

The film carries on the story of a singer. The man retired early and then came back to the stage. But it is not what it was. His wife has left him. The spotlight no longer pulls at him the same way. For a while he gives up the stage. He fills his time with women, horses and travel. Then his mother dies. The war begins in the same years. The two things together bring him back to the stage. He sets out with his manager Steve Martin. He sings for the troops from Alaska to Africa. In the end he collapses from exhaustion. A nurse called Ellen Clark looks after him. Larry Parks and Barbara Hale take the leads in Henry Levin’s American film of 1949.
