What The Mechanic Gavrilov's Beloved Woman Is About
Rita, thirty eight, lives with her daughter, who is still at school, and has built her life herself; this morning she is getting married. But at the registry office the groom, the ship’s mechanic Gavrilov, is nowhere to be seen. Rita spends the whole day waiting outside the door, half thinking something has happened to him and half trying to accept that she has been left. The people she meets while waiting, the everyday bustle of the city and her own past all pass side by side. Pyotr Todorovskiy does not turn this into a tearful story about being abandoned; he looks at what the woman is thinking that day. Lyudmila Gurchenko appears in the seventy nine minute Soviet film, completed in 1982.
