What The Middle of the World Is About
Paul, a married and successful engineer in Switzerland, is the conservative party’s candidate in the coming local election; his party speaks harshly about foreign labour. He falls in love with Adriana, an Italian who works in a café, and as the affair goes on he is even ready to leave his wife. But it is the woman who pays: the eyes of the neighbourhood, her job and her being an immigrant press her a little harder every day, and in the end the decision is hers. Alain Tanner’s hundred and fifteen minute Swiss film tells the affair not as a love story but from inside inequality. Olimpia Carlisi and Philippe Léotard appear.
