The People Upstairs

Julio and Ana invite the couple from upstairs to dinner one evening. Julio wants them gone; Ana insisted. The neighbours arrive and within the first half hour the conversation goes somewhere Julio and Ana are in no way prepared for: the couple upstairs have a proposal. Cesc Gay adapted his own stage play, and it all takes place in one apartment across something close to real time, with the door never once opening outward. The comedy runs on embarrassment, because the real subject is not the proposal but the thing Julio and Ana have not discussed for years landing on the table. Javier Cámara and Griselda Siciliani lead. Who it is for: viewers who like dialogue comedy and single-room plays. Who it is not for: anyone wanting cinematic movement, since the film does not hide its stage origin.
