What The Real Miyagi Is About
The documentary tells the life of the karateka Fumio Demura: his arrival in the United States from Japan and his becoming one of the most respected teachers of his generation. The title comes from that history; Pat Morita built the character of Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid largely by watching Demura, who did the stunt work for him in the films. The director John G. Avildsen, Billy Blanks, Bill Wallace and Dolph Lundgren speak on camera, and Pat Morita appears in archive footage. Kevin Derek directed, the name that also appears in credits as Kayvon Derak Shanian. It runs ninety minutes.
