What The T.A.M.I. Show Is About
On 29 and 30 October 1964 a line-up that had never been assembled before took the stage at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium: James Brown, the Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, the Miracles, the Beach Boys and more. Putting Black and white performers on the same stage was in itself a break with how things were done. Steve Binder’s film keeps all of it as it happened. Agreeing to follow James Brown was, by Keith Richards’s own account, the biggest mistake of their careers. The film was added to the United States National Film Registry in 2006.
