The Third Secret

A well known London psychologist is found dead and the death is closed as suicide. His colleagues cannot believe it; his teenage daughter refuses it, because her father stood against exactly that all his life. The girl goes to one of her father's former patients and asks for his help. Together they start finding, one by one, the patients who went into the psychologist's room. Charles Crichton's film is a thriller shot in black and white. Stephen Boyd plays the man called in to help and Pamela Franklin the psychologist's daughter; Jack Hawkins, Richard Attenborough and Diane Cilento come on in turn as the patients. The structure is built like a puzzle, but what the film is really interested in is the thing a person does not know about themselves.
