The Tiniest Place

The army of El Salvador destroyed the village of Cinquera during the civil war. Years later the survivors came back and began to rebuild it. The documentary follows those people as they are now. The account does not show the war itself; it builds it out of what people say. The villagers are recorded working their fields, cooking, talking to one another. The people they lost come back inside the conversations. The film does not display the pain; it shows how memory gets into daily life. The hundred minutes are given to a single village. The work is Tatiana Huezo’s first feature. Her film, a joint Mexican and Salvadoran production, was completed in 2011.
