What The Whistleblower Is About

Dr Lee Jang-hwan announces that he has succeeded in cloning human embryonic stem cells and becomes overnight the pride of the country. Yoon Min-cheol, a producer on a television news programme, gets an anonymous call: the caller worked on the project and says the results were fabricated. Before anything can be broadcast, there has to be proof. Yim Soon-rye's South Korean film rests on real events: in the middle of the 2000s the results of a stem cell study were found to have been fabricated, and the country argued about it for a long time. The names in the film were changed. The telling does not make a hero of the journalist; it also shows how the public turned on the person who spoke up.
