The Wind Blows Round

A small mountain village in the Piedmont Alps. The population is old and shrinking. One day a French teacher settles there with his wife and three children, meaning to keep goats and make cheese. At first the village is pleased: perhaps the place will not empty out after all. Then the small things start. Where will the goats graze, whose pasture is that, why does the newcomer not do things the way the village does them. Nobody says anything openly and everybody says something. In the end the family leaves not on a decision of its own but on the village's silence. Giorgio Diritti directs the Italian film; a hundred and ten minutes. The villagers are played by non-professionals. Italian, French and Occitan, the language of the valleys, are all spoken in it.
