What The Wonders Is About
In the Tuscan countryside a family producing honey by traditional methods is struggling to get by. There are four daughters in the house and most of the responsibility sits on the eldest, Gelsomina. A boy sent to them for rehabilitation disrupts the routine, and when the debts close in Gelsomina sees a way out: a television contest searching for the most traditional family in Italy. The idea of opening their sealed life to a camera runs straight into her father’s rules. Alice Rohrwacher treats growing up not as a break but as the family’s world slowly starting to feel small.
