The World is Ours, known in Spanish as El mundo es nuestro, was one of the first Spanish productions financed through crowdfunding; its roughly 600,000 euro budget was raised through a three tier model running from small donations to producer investments to crew members converting their salaries into equity. The film premiered at the Málaga Spanish Film Festival on April 22, 2012, winning Best Actor and the Audience Award, and grossed 525,000 euros from about 128,000 admissions in Spain. The first entry in a trilogy, it was followed by El mundo es suyo in 2018 and El mundo es vuestro in 2022. Who it's for: anyone curious about a crowdfunded Spanish heist comedy that won a festival audience award and launched a trilogy. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a big studio budgeted production, since this grew from small donations.
