This Charming Girl

Jeong-hye, in her thirties, works at the post office and lives alone with her cat. Apart from lunch with the women at work she sees nobody, and her days pass with almost nothing in them. The interest of a young would be writer who comes into the post office is the first thing that moves the arrangement. This was Lee Yoon-ki's first feature, and it puts the looking rather than the event at the centre: he holds the camera on Jeong-hye's face and builds the weight of the unsaid thing from there. Kim Ji-soo, in her first film role, won best actress at Busan, and the film took the New Currents and NETPAC prizes. What is being withheld comes out slowly and will not be given away here.
