What Three Girls from Rome Is About
Marisa, Elena and Lucia work as seamstresses at a large fashion house near the Piazza di Spagna. The three are close friends and all three come from the outer districts of Rome: Garbatella, Monteverde, Capannelle. For them the sewing is mainly a way of putting together a dowry. The film takes their love lives, their calculations and what it meant to be a working woman in postwar Rome all together. Luciano Emmer's picture is an early example of what came to be called pink neorealism, taking the street of neorealism and setting romance inside it. Lucia Bosè, Eduardo De Filippo and a young Marcello Mastroianni are in the cast.
